Beyond Rescue: Justice, Healing and Empowerment for Generations to Come

More than fifteen years ago, Peter and Joeline Sewakiryanga answered a life-changing call to move to Kyampisi, a village outside Kampala, where they founded Kyampisi Childcare Ministries (KCM). The organisation now leads efforts to confront the hidden atrocious practice of ritual child sacrifice in Uganda. Through tireless advocacy, Peter has helped expose this crime, pursue justice for survivors and influence national reform, contributing to the introduction of the 2020 Prevention and Prohibition of Human Sacrifice Act and supporting nearly 150 prosecutions.

As their work evolved, Peter and Joeline expanded their vision to a broader mission of transforming the future of children in Kyampisi by addressing the root causes of generational poverty, including limited access to nutrition, education and healthcare. Today, KCM continues to build a stronger, more hopeful community, rescuing vulnerable children, widening access to education and promoting long-term health, safety and empowerment.

We don’t want people to do it for us. We want people to empower us so that we can do it for ourselves.
~ Peter Sewakiryanga

KCM Rehabilitation Home: A Sanctuary Where Survivors Heal and Thrive

Survivors of child sacrifice often live with deep physical and emotional trauma, as well as stigma within their communities. The KCM Rehabilitation Home, formerly known as St Paul’s Rehabilitation Home, was established as a safe and nurturing place where children can begin to heal.

Here, children gain access to life-saving surgeries, trauma counseling, daily care and, above all, constant and unconditional love. Since its founding, close to 2,000 children have found safety, dignity and the opportunity to reclaim their lives.

Every child deserves safety.
Every life deserves justice.

At KCM Rehabilitation Home, children who have endured unimaginable harm find safety, compassionate care and the strength to begin again.
See how lives are being renewed through care, justice and love.

Building Brighter Futures: Empowering Children Through Education

For many families, the unaffordable cost of education keeps children trapped in cycles of poverty and exclusion. To break this cycle, KCM established Kyampisi Junior School, which now enrols over 1,300 children. What began as a small local school has grown into a beacon of hope, attracting students from across the region.

More than just classrooms, the school provides nutritious meals, mentorship and a safe environment where children can learn, grow and thrive.

"In the 21st century, the best anti-poverty program around is a world-class education.”
~ Barack Obama

Healing Communities: Transforming Lives Through Healthcare

Through tireless effort and a vision that began in 2011, KCM opened the Weema Clinic in 2019. What started as a slow but steady journey from idea to construction, funding, operations and staffing has grown into a vital community resource. Today, the Weema Clinic serves nearly 60,000 people, addressing urgent health needs with a special focus on women and children. The clinic provides maternal care, treatment for common illnesses and health education for families.

A major enhancement to Weema’s ability to serve the community came with the donation of its first ambulance from MAF in 2024. This life-saving vehicle has made a significant difference, particularly in maternal care and emergency health responses.

Alongside these growing healthcare initiatives, KCM has drilled wells and boreholes to ensure access to clean, safe water, a basic yet transformative foundation for community health and stability.

Economic Empowerment: Building Stronger Families, Sustainable Livelihoods and Resilient Communities

True change happens when communities have the means and knowledge to provide for themselves, not just today, but for generations to come. KCM’s strategic vision includes initiatives that strengthen both economic opportunity and sustainability, supporting the long-term health and independence of the community through targeted programs such as:

  • A maize mill and storage facility that supports local farmers through sustainable agricultural practices while also strengthening Weema Clinic.
  • Microfinance and savings groups that enable families, from young to old, to start and grow small businesses.
  • A planned Community Vocational Development Centre to equip young people with skills for a changing world.

Through these efforts, families are moving from a future of simply surviving to one of thriving, where economic stability and environmental responsibility grow hand in hand.

A Humanitarian Partnership: Creating Lasting Change

KCM’s humanitarian partnership with Mission Abundance was established in 2019, marked by MAF’s inaugural mission trip. Since then, KCM and MAF have worked side by side, not only to rescue and rehabilitate children by providing consistent nutrition, education and healthcare while pursuing justice for survivors, but also to build abundance throughout the community. Their empowerment projects expand access to clean water, improve food security, support education and create opportunities for all Kyampisi families to thrive. Together, KCM and MAF journey in hope, knowing that through every child, every family and every act of compassion, a stronger, more resilient community is being built.
