Bridge Christian Ministries (BCM) was founded in Nateete, one of Kampala’s most densely populated and vulnerable slums, by Haggai and Agnes Mwesige in 2000. For more than 25 years, they have worked tirelessly to bring hope, stability and opportunity to their community.
Four core goals lie at the heart of BCM’s work: nutrition, clean water and sanitation, health care and education. Haggai believes these four pillars hold the key to breaking cycles of poverty. While each is vital, education lies at the root of lasting change.
After years of serving his community, Haggai returned to the classroom at age 40 determined to finish his elementary education. He went on to earn multiple degrees in Psychology, Public Administration, International Relations and Diplomatic Studies. Each achievement strengthened his conviction that education can transform lives. Driven by this belief, Haggai founded New Seasons Nursery and Primary School to give children the same life-changing opportunity. What began with 30 students has grown to nearly 250, taught and mentored by almost 20 dedicated educators. Although the school is now at capacity, it continues to provide a safe place offered entirely free to their families. Here they are equipped to learn, grow and dream.
New Seasons offers children more than an education by providing safety, nutrition and water. In a community where many children are left to wander while their parents search for work, the school becomes a safe haven of stability and care. With the only water tap in the area and free daily meals, children are nourished and able to focus, as learning is difficult on an empty stomach. At New Seasons, every child is given the chance to grow, dream and thrive in an environment created for their development.
Haggai’s vision goes beyond the classroom, offering wraparound care for children in Nateete. A strong focus is placed on healthcare, treating and preventing waterborne illnesses and other common health issues. Through their partner organisation, Bridge Christian Church, the community also receives spiritual and emotional support. Weekly worship services, music ministries and outreach events nurture faith and bring the community together, while food and hygiene packs provide relief for struggling families.
Today, BCM continues to stand as a bridge of hope, working to break the cycle of poverty and build stronger futures for children and families in Nateete.
Bridge Christian Ministries is transforming hardship into hope, healing and lasting change, touching lives one child, one family and one act of love at a time.
In 2023, BCM partnered with Mission Abundance to form a strong alliance that advances its four core goals of education, nutrition, water and sanitation and health. Together, they have created lasting impact in the community, and their work is only just beginning.
